What We Believe

Here at the Greensburg United Methodist Church, we believe:

  • Every person matters to God

  • Jesus, the son of God, died on the cross and rose again to redeem us from our sins

  • The Bible is true and relevant to everyday life

About the Methodist Church

The United Methodist Church traces its ancestry back to John Wesley, his brother, Charles, and a small group of people who met for prayer, study, and the practice of spiritual discipline at Oxford University in Oxford, England in the 1730's. It was there that the name "Methodist" was first used, not by the small group, who called themselves the Holy Club, but by others in a derogatory manner. This small group believed in a methodical practice of faith rather than leaving everything to chance. They sought, not only to gather together regularly and to study scripture, but also to serve others.
